While many sports facilities are gearing up for their re-opening of sports programs and recreation, one SFM Network venue, Hoover Metropolitan Complex, is opening their parking lots for a drive-in concert series this month as featured in a recent Billboard article. Located in Hoover, Alabama, the complex is hosting concerts throughout the month of June including big name hits such as The Beatles' Abbey Road and Queen's A Night at the Opera.
Tickets are available for purchase through the Hoover Met Complex website by clicking on the event date. The first concert on June 19th sold 160 tickets with all premium spots sold out. The second concert has already sold over 200 tickets, and premium spots are sold out. This event series has been a huge success by allowing families and friends to get together while practicing social distancing guidelines.
The "Concerts from the Car" concert series is put on by the Black Jacket Symphony. The live concert series will include classic rock albums from the comfort and safety of each guests' car in the Hoover Met Complex parking lot. Billboard magazine called it "the most recent innovative solution as an alternative to standing in a packed crowd with your favorite musician". See below for the series schedule:
- June 19: The Beatles Abbey Road
- June 26: Queen's A Night At the Opera featuring Marc Martel
John Sparks, General Manager of the Hoover Met Complex said, “This is a great event for the Hoover and greater Birmingham communities. We're thrilled to work with the City of Hoover to host a series that brings small groups and families in a setting where they can experience the excitement of not only a concert, but of some of the greatest classic albums of our time.”
Hoover Met Complex is continuing to open in a phased approach to ensure the health and safety of visitors and employees. For more information on this venue and to stay up-to-date on their plans to re-open, visit their website or follow them on Facebook.
