Sports and recreation may be the main purpose for many of the SFM Network venues, but we have never set limitations on what our venues should offer to patrons. Part of SFM’s mission is to improve the health and economic vitality of the communities we serve and goes well beyond sports. This week, Apex Sports & Events, located in Hillsborough, New Jersey has announced a new partnership that sets them apart from most sports venues and extends health services to their community. Apex has partnered with RWJBarnabas Health, the leading academic health system in NJ, for a multi-year partnership starting this summer.
Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset, an RWJBarnabas Health facility, will have a dedicated space at Apex Sports & Events, immediately inside the facility, scheduled to open this fall. Also, as part of the partnership, the health system will conduct a number of educational seminars for athletes, parents, and coaches which will focus on subjects such as injury prevention, sports performance, and exercise and fitness.
“Bringing on such a reputable medical partner as RWJBarnabas Health is an important step in fulfilling our mission of promoting a healthy lifestyle to our surrounding communities, especially in this current environment,” states Gregg Wilke, Apex Sports & Events owner and Managing Partner in a press release. “Their expertise and experience will provide our customers with a full-range of services, including education, training, consultations, and physical therapy.”
“Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset has a longstanding commitment to Somerset County and the surrounding areas to create healthier communities,” says Anthony Cava, President for Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset an RWJBarnabas Health facility. “Through this partnership, we are able to bring health and wellness education directly into the communities we serve to ensure that children and their families are more informed on healthy habits, both through nutrition and exercise, which can be easily maintained so they can live longer and healthier lives.”
Another key component to the partnership will be RWJBarnabas Health’s sponsorship of the Apex Camp Series, beginning this summer.
“Our focus on camps has always been to provide training and activities to our athletes and campers in a safe and healthy environment. The recent developments with COVID-19 have heightened that focus,” explains Apex Sports & Events General Manager, Sandra Weingart. “Having a partner like RWJBarnabas Health provide insights on protocols as we launch our programming this summer will help to ensure that we are delivering on that expectation.
